Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 284!
Serving all Kindergarten through 5th graders in West Seattle

About Our Pack
Cub Scout Pack 284 has been supporting kids in West Seattle since 1984. We are focused on “Fun with a Purpose” to promote character development, citizenship training, personal fitness, and leadership. Cub Scouts is a community-based organization for boys and girls in grades K-5 designed to teach teamwork, life skills and community-building. We are a chartered club under Our Lady Guadalupe.
A typical scouting year runs from August-June, but scouts can join Pack 284 on a rolling basis and will join a Den according to their grade:
Kindergarteners – Lions
1st Graders – Tigers
2nd Graders – Wolves
3rd Graders – Bears
4th Graders – Webelos
5th Graders – Arrow of Light
Pack Meetings
Pack meetings are gatherings of all the families in the pack (about 40 kids) held one Wednesday a month from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. During these gatherings we celebrate the progress each Den and Scout is making, and engage in fun activities that teach us more about the Scout Law.

Den Meetings
Dens are smaller, grade-specific groups within the pack. They meet regularly on a schedule set by their Den leaders (1-2 times per month). Scouts will learn new skills, play purposeful games, and work towards completing Adventures.
Pack Events
Pack events are typically outdoor activities, often on weekends, open to either individual dens or the whole pack. These events are great ways for the kids to get to know each other more and have interaction and leadership opportunities with the other age groups. These include family camping trips, bike rides, and service projects.

Pack Activities
In addition to monthly Den and Pack meetings, our Scouting year activities typically include:
Pinewood Derby
The Pinewood Derby is a highlight of the scouting year! Scouts design and build their own cars from a kit containing a block of wood, plastic wheels, and axles, and then race them down a sloped track. The event emphasizes craftsmanship, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.
Summer Resident Camp
Situated at the foothills of the Cascade mountain range approximately one hour from Seattle, Camp Edward offers many fun camp activities for Scouts, including swimming, boating, BB gun and archery ranges, playfields, nature trails and a fantastic craft lodge.
Winter Resident Camp
Winter camp at Camp Sheppard is a fun scouting experience for scouts in the Tiger den (first grade) or older. Scouts participate in hiking, ecology-conservation, BB guns, archery, and snow tubing, all in the beauty of the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest.
Fall/Spring Family Camps
Scouts and their families can enjoy camping with the pack, exploring nature and building community. Family camps are typically held at state parks within a 2 hour drive of Seattle.
Scouting for Food
Scouting for Food is a massive, annual, council wide food drive. This community service project is a dedicated opportunity for your unit to help fight hunger locally. Each year, scouts collect thousands of pounds of food for local food banks.
Earth Day Service Project
Our Pack participates in a greenbelt clean up project each year, replacing invasive plants and weeds with native varieties, and easy trail clean up.
